How do I know if my book will sell?

The only way you will know if your book will sell is to write it and then harness your selling powers to sell the book. Whether you sell the book to a large traditional publishing house, a distribution outlet or to independent books stores, doesn’t matter. If you believe in your book, and you put the effort in, your book will sell.

To give your book a better chance of selling, you will need to produce a first class quality product. This includes professional editing, cover and internal pages designed professionally, and global distribution. You will also need a strong sales and marketing strategy in place.

While there’s no guaranteed way to predict book sales, the more you invest in your book – and yourself – the higher the chances of success.

Some people advocate conducting market research and identifying your target audience before writing the book. The truth is, what is relevant today, may not be relevant tomorrow, so write an evergreen book.

Building an author platform and engaging in effective marketing strategies will increase your book’s chances of success. Having a VA who does lead generation for you – whilst you focus on your writing and business building – is another way of generating sales of your books.

Networking in the right circles, reaching out to key individuals and events organisers will also give your book a greater chance of selling.

The one thing you must not do is rely on friends and family to help you market and sell your book – unless of course they own a marketing and PR firm, are a huge influencer and act as your marketing agents.

If you do all of this, then your book will sell.

No question about it.
