What’s a vanity publisher?

A vanity publisher charges authors to publish their work without vetting and selecting manuscripts based on quality and marketability. They are on the increase as it is seen as a quick way to make money. These are the people who do not value literature.

Vanity publishers publish books in exchange for a fee, offer limited distribution and marketing support. They are – as the name implies – in the business of vanity. People who wish to collect the title of author for prestige, rather than respect for the art of writing, use vanity publishers.

A boutique publisher, such as ourselves, vet each manuscript we publish. We charge for our services because we do not buy the rights to your manuscript or Intellectual Property. Making payment also holds you accountable and gives you a target to work towards.

When you invest money, you are more likely to put the work in, rather than leave it to others to create your success.

We work with our clients on all aspects of the writing and publishing process, and long after the book has been published – unlike the vanity publishers.

Vanity publishing is frowned upon by many, and sadly, many authors have been ripped off by vanity publishers. Always have a list of questions at hand to ask about the vetting and support processes in place. If there are none, stay away; unless of course you don’t care about anything other than having the title of author.

To learn more about the various publishing processes, book a call with a member of our team. During the call, we’ll make sure you have as much information about what to look for in a publisher. We will also help you create an action plan, and provide you with the confidence on how to become a published author.
