How do I make money as an author? 

Authors generally make money through their royalties, and these are either paid up front by a traditional style publisher who buys the manuscript (and the rights) from the author.

With additional opportunities for authors coming from speaking engagements, film and TV rights, translation deals and ancillary products such as audiobooks and merchandise, authors can have unlimited incomes streams; and this is before they start adding additional services to their portfolio.

The only limitations to how an author can make money is the author’s own willingness to get creative or implement the additional revenue streams available to them, and the contractual terms they agree to when selling their manuscript to their publisher.
