What do I do at a book signing as an author?

Book signings can be any thing you want them to be, provided you have agreement with the location, the space and the budget.

Generally, at a book signing, you interact with your readers, sign copies of your book, and possibly give a reading of excerpts of your book. You may also give a talk about your journey, why you wrote the book, the kind of work you do if the book is related to your career or business.

Some book signing events are in collaboration with others or organisations specific to your books subject matter. At these you will either be on stage delivering a talk, speaking on a panel of experts or perhaps leading a workshop of some kind. It really does depend on who you are, what your book is about and what skills you have, and would like to develop!

If you have organised the book signing yourself, then depending on the venue you have chosen and what your book is about, you could offer free taster sessions of your area of expertise, such as cooking, art techniques, silversmithing, exercise and breathwork, gardening, textiles or tea blending!

You could even collaborate with others offering complimentary services or products associated with your subject matter with a signed copy of your book in the goodie bag of the event.

The options really are endless and you can really let your creativity shine with these.
