Why are authors always so poor or really rich?
Author income varies widely based on factors such as royalties, advances from the traditional publisher, and any additional revenue streams put in place. Some authors struggle financially as they have either not got the business acumen, the drive or willingness to promote their books or get onto a speaking circuit.
The authors who achieve significant wealth from their work are writing for a mass market rather than a very niche audience, resulting in higher sales. For example, a how to grow your business to 1 million in revenue is going to sell more books than teaching people how to grow onions. There will almost certainly be coaching and courses with the how to grow your business to 1 million in revenue.
If the author has written a children’s book, then there are opportunities to create a range of school stationary and clothing.
The other really defining difference between the starving artist and the abundant author is the amount of time, money and energy they are prepared to put into creating the business side of things.
